Freeform®. It’s the latest buzz word in the spectacle manufacturing industry. It denotes a new technology, allowing non-rotationally symmetrical lens surfaces to be turned on the back of spectacle lens blanks.  Most commonly associated with back-side progressive lenses, this technology allows an unprecedented freedom of design and superior optical properties. Although patent issues prohibit the manufacture of back-side PALs in the United States, other freeform® designs are available. At Specialty Optics, we utilize Freeform technology® to produce lenses with optical requirements that were previously considered impossible to satisfy.
